China, Belarus, and Kazakhstan have announced plans to build a new logistics terminal in Svislach, located on the Belarusian-Polish border. This strategic development aims to enhance overland rail traffic between China and Europe, improving logistics along this vital route. On June 25, the Chinese company Xi’an Free Trade Port Construction, KTZ Express, and Belarusian Unionway LLC solidified their commitment by signing a memorandum of intent.
Despite the current strained political relations between East and West, the construction of this logistics terminal underscores the countries' commitment to bolstering freight volumes on the China-Europe route that traverses Russia and Belarus. Recent EU sanctions targeting Belarus to prevent Russian sanction circumvention do not appear to deter the three nations from pursuing this infrastructure project.
Kazakhstan’s transport ministry emphasized the significance of the Svislach terminal, stating, “This step is an important stage in the development of transport infrastructure and the creation of new opportunities to increase the transit potential of Kazakhstan.”
This new terminal in Svislach follows a series of initiatives by China and Kazakhstan to enhance westward connectivity. Earlier this year, the two countries, in collaboration with Russia, began constructing a logistics terminal in the Moscow region, further strengthening their transport infrastructure network.
