In 2015, Universal Balancing joined the Burke Porter Group, a global collective of intelligent machinery manufacturers. The Burke Porter Group family now encompasses over 40 locations across 4 continents, with manufacturing and support capabilities covering the globe.

Our Story

Established in 1995, Universal Balancing began as a balancing service and contract balancing company before moving into balancing machine manufacturing a year later, having quickly gained a reputation for excellent service and high standards of work. Founder Steve Fowler began his career as an apprentice at Rolls Royce, balancing jet engines, and this is where Steve’s passion for balancing began. Steve now sits on the ISO board for balancing, involved in developing global standards for balancing machine build and testing.

In 1996, Universal Balancing partnered with BTD Jackson & Bradwell to develop new balancing systems. BTD had a long history dating back to the 1940s, and their DOS-based measuring system formed the basis for today’s Winbal measuring system, making it the most developed and capable system in the industry today. In 1998, UB supplied GKN Driveline with its first modern day driveshaft balancing machine, starting a focus on driveshaft technology that continues to this day and has led into many other product lines. Having acquired BTD in 2003, Universal Balancing has grown to supply across 6 continents, working with some of the largest manufacturers in the world. Universal Balancing’s main focus has historically been automotive and aerospace, but a diverse product range continues to allow servicing of all manufacturers of rotating components.
