Vetropack Straža, a leading name in the glass packaging industry, has successfully completed a €60 million modernization project on its flint glass furnace. On November 21st, the reconstruction phase concluded with a ceremonial event, marking a significant milestone for the factory in Hum na Sutli, Croatia.
Ceremony Marks New Era for Vetropack Straža
The ceremonial "final brick" was symbolically placed into the crown of the upgraded furnace by notable attendees, including Croatia’s Minister of Environment and Green Transition Marija Vučković, alongside Vetropack Straža’s leadership team: Managing Director Darko Šlogar, Finance Director Marija Špiljak, and Production Director Božo Hršak. The event highlighted the culmination of a transformative project aimed at boosting production capacity and achieving sustainability goals.
Once operational, the furnace will hold 500 tons of molten glass, ready for production by December 2024, positioning the facility as a benchmark in efficiency and environmental responsibility within the glass manufacturing sector.
Cutting-Edge Technology for Improved Efficiency
The modernization included the introduction of advanced NIS glass-blowing machines with servo drive, a first for Vetropack Straža. The upgraded furnace features a state-of-the-art melting tank, enhancing energy efficiency and production output. Additionally, the plant’s layout was optimized to improve production flow and safeguard the company’s reputation for high-quality glass products.
Sustainability at the Core
The revamped facility is designed to reduce energy consumption and lower emissions, aligning with Vetropack’s sustainability objectives. By improving throughput ratios, the factory can produce more glass per square meter, cutting costs and minimizing its carbon footprint.
“I am proud and excited for the first glass production using this new technology,” said Mario Berc, Technical Manager at Vetropack Straža. “The commissioning marks a significant milestone for our team.”
