Bulgaria is set to significantly upgrade its railway system with the introduction of up to 25 cutting-edge electric trains from Škoda Group, boosting passenger comfort, safety, and accessibility across the country. This major contract, valued at over half a billion euros, highlights Bulgaria’s commitment to modernizing its transport infrastructure and strengthening industrial investments in Central Eastern Europe (CEE), including partnerships with key players from countries like Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

Škoda Group will deliver 24 RegioPanter electric train units with an option for five additional units, making this one of the most significant rail investments in Bulgaria in recent years. The contract also includes a 15-year service agreement, ensuring long-term maintenance and operational efficiency. The new electric trains are designed to meet European safety standards, equipped with the ETCS Level 2 system, and capable of speeds up to 160 km/h. They feature air-conditioned carriages, ergonomic seating, onboard Wi-Fi, and advanced safety systems, all aimed at enhancing the passenger experience.

Additionally, the trains will feature a partially low-floor design to improve accessibility for all passengers, ensuring compliance with modern European accessibility standards. The upgrade will not only improve travel comfort but also mark a step forward in Bulgaria’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and increase the efficiency of public transport systems.

Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Krasimira Stoyanova, highlighted the importance of the contract, noting that this project is part of the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan. She expressed hope that this development would lead to further investment in new rolling stock and equipment across the country's transport infrastructure.

This project with Škoda Group is expected to open new opportunities for industrial partnerships and distribution agreements across CEE markets, with Bulgaria taking a leading role in rail modernization. The investment also signals potential collaboration with distribution partners in neighboring countries like Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic, further enhancing the region’s transportation networks and industrial growth.
