There are over 1.5 million computers (Laptop and Desktop) used by small and medium size enterprise’s in Poland. SME’s in Poland on average have 17 Computers per Company of which about 75% are Desktops which is just over 1.12 million Desktop Computers. On average a Computer is replaced every 4.5 years which is an improvement from 5 years from 2005 and 4.75 years from 2 years ago (2008).
The amount of computers used with in a Company in Poland depends on the amount of employees and departments and also the key influence of a foreign investor. In a medium size Polish company then there tends to be an average of just below 50 Computers with a 69% being desktops and 31% Laptops. Between 2005 and 2010 the amount of Computers used with in a medium size company in Poland has increased by 15 units or 42%. A medium size company tends to replace its Computers every 4 years on average; the frequency which this happens depends on the company income. A turnover of below PLN 2 million means computers are replaced every 4.5 to 5 years above that in terms of turnover when the computers are replaced closer to 4.5 years.
Companies in Poland tend to replace there operating systems less often then 6 years ago when a lot of Companies switched to using Windows XP(Microsoft), because of the poor reputation of Vistas there has been a reluctance to switch. It will be interesting to see the changes and demand for Windows 7 with in the Polish ITC market.
Since the accession of Poland to the EU only 5% of SME’s have used EU Funds to help with there purchasing of ITC systems, 11% of medium size companies use EU Funds on there ICT infrastructure and IT projects and for the top 100 companies in Poland 19% have used EU Funds to improve there ICT purchases. The key for any ITC technology supplier to target companies who are going to or have access to EU funding and with 16% of SME’s and 22% of medium size companies in Poland planning to use EU funds to finance there ITC purchases with in the next 2 years there has never been a better time to target the Polish and greater Central and Eastern Europe region (CEE)
