The Polish government has endorsed Rolls-Royce's ambitious plan to construct nuclear power plants in Poland. This significant development marks a crucial step forward for the deployment of Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor (SMR) power plants in the country.
Government Support and Industrial Collaboration
Rolls-Royce SMR expressed its gratitude for the backing from the Polish industrial group, Industria, which is advancing the approval process for a Decision in Principle. This initial step towards deployment involves obtaining opinions from various government departments. The final necessary opinion was provided by the Polish Minister of Climate and Environment, Ms. Paulina Hennig-Kloska, following endorsements from the Polish Minister of State Assets, the Chief of the Polish Internal Security Agency, and Poland's Chief Geologist.
“The Polish Minister of Climate and Environment now has all the documentation required to issue a Decision in Principle to deploy Rolls-Royce SMRs in Poland,” stated Rolls-Royce. Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska emphasized that this investment aligns with Poland's energy and climate policies and serves the public interest. Several government agencies have already affirmed that the Rolls-Royce SMR plants would positively impact the country.
Advancing Nuclear Power in Poland
The approval allows Rolls-Royce to proceed with commercial and technical discussions about deploying its SMR power plants in Poland. Each self-contained, factory-built unit can provide low-carbon energy to a million homes for over 60 years, offering a sustainable and long-term solution to the country's energy needs.
Alan Woods, Director of Strategy and Business Development at Rolls-Royce SMR, welcomed the government's decision. “We are delighted the Polish Government has concluded that the deployment of our unique 'factory-built' nuclear power plants would have a positive impact on the country, and we look forward to a Decision in Principle to deploy Rolls-Royce SMRs in Poland.”
Conclusion
This endorsement from the Polish government is a major milestone for Rolls-Royce's nuclear power initiative. With the necessary governmental approvals in place, Rolls-Royce is poised to advance its plans for SMR power plants in Poland, contributing to the country's energy security and sustainability goals. The deployment of these advanced nuclear power plants will not only support Poland's climate policies but also provide a reliable source of low-carbon energy for decades to come.
