STIHL, the renowned German company, has officially initiated the building of its latest factory located in Oradea, Romania. This new venture includes the establishment of a cutting-edge battery production facility.
Celebrated with a ground-breaking ceremony last week, this development signifies a pivotal expansion in STIHL's global manufacturing capabilities, which already stretch across seven nations over four continents.
Set to sprawl over a 147,000 square meter area, the facility is designed to offer nearly 47,000 square meters of operational space.
The factory is on track to start its production operations by September 2025, with expectations to generate around 700 employment opportunities by 2028 at the Andreas STIHL Power Tools plant.
Nikolas Stihl, the Chair of STIHL Advisory and Supervisory Board, shared insights into the company's strategic expansion: "Our battery product lines are already being produced in Austria, the USA, China, and Germany. With plans underway to kick off production of battery-powered devices at our headquarters in Waiblingen, Germany this year, and the upcoming operations in Oradea from 2025, we're poised to significantly boost our competitive edge in the battery market."
In its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, STIHL has embedded these values deeply into the planning and construction process of the Oradea factory. The company is aiming for a nod of approval from the German Sustainable Building Council post-completion.
Features such as photovoltaic systems and geothermal energy utilization for the heating and cooling of the facility underscore STIHL's dedication to minimizing environmental impact. The design also incorporates green roofing and eschews the use of fossil gases.
This initiative follows the company's announcement earlier in the year about relocating the operations of STIHL Plant 5 in Ludwigsburg, Germany, to STIHL Plant 2 in Waiblingen-Neustadt, further consolidating its manufacturing efficiency.
