Jacobs Douwe Egberts to Construct €140 Million High-Tech Coffee Plant in Jawor, Poland
Jacobs Douwe Egberts, a leading global coffee producer, has selected Jawor, a city in Poland's Lower Silesia region, for its latest major investment. Initially proposed with a budget of €63 million in December 2022, the project received a significant boost with a €16.5 million grant from the Polish government. This additional funding has expanded the project's scope, bringing the total estimated cost to nearly €140 million.
The enhanced investment will make the Jawor facility one of the most advanced coffee plants globally, featuring extensive automation. Despite its large scale, the plant is expected to employ around 50 people once operational.
Jacobs Douwe Egberts, while renowned for its coffee, also engages in the processing and production of tea, cocoa, chocolate, rusks, biscuits, bread, milk, cheese, juices, and spices. Specific details about the range of products to be manufactured at the new Jawor facility have not been officially disclosed.
As per the terms of the grant agreement, the construction of the plant is scheduled to commence no later than 2026 and conclude by 2030, with an operational commitment until at least 2035.
This investment in Jawor by Jacobs Douwe Egberts follows another significant commitment by Mercedes-Benz, which recently announced plans to construct a €1.4 billion factory for electric delivery vehicles in the same town. This earlier investment by Mercedes-Benz also included a €600 million factory for engines and batteries for electric cars, highlighting Jawor's emerging status as a hub for global corporate investments.
