Continental has officially inaugurated a fully automated high-bay warehouse at its tire production facility in Otrokovice, Czech Republic. This advanced warehouse boasts a storage capacity of over 930,000 tires, enabling the premium tire manufacturer to centralize its regional warehouses and optimize logistics processes, significantly reducing CO2 emissions.
Enhanced Logistics and Sustainability
Dr. Bernhard Trilken, Head of Manufacturing and Logistics at Continental Tires, highlighted the benefits of the new facility: "With our fully automated warehouse, we can enhance our logistics processes, serve customers more efficiently, and further reduce our carbon footprint. Sustainable logistics is crucial for a resource-efficient and eco-friendly supply chain."
Continental’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its logistics operations, which incorporate innovative technologies, optimized storage capacities and routes, and renewable energy sources. The new warehouse, standing at 43 meters tall and covering 10,000 square meters, features high racks and small aisles for vertical and horizontal storage, with mobile stackers automatically moving tires stored on pallets.
Renewable Energy and Global Initiatives
The warehouse's electricity is sourced from renewable energies, aligning with Continental's global initiative under the RE100 criteria. Since late 2020, all Continental production facilities worldwide have adhered to these sustainability standards.
Investment in Digitalization and Automation
Continental continues to invest in the digitalization and automation of its global manufacturing operations across 20 tire plants in 16 countries.
