The European Investment Bank (EIB) Group has inaugurated a cutting-edge IT Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Warsaw. This strategic move aims to bolster the group's cloud, cybersecurity, and other digital capabilities, reinforcing Poland's pivotal role in EIB's expansion.
Enhancing Digital Capabilities in Poland
EIB Vice-President Teresa Czerwińska emphasized Poland's significance, stating, "Opening a new IT hub in Warsaw underlines the important role of Poland for the EIB Group’s development. Our ambition is to make the Centre of Excellence an attractive workplace that offers opportunities and attracts new talents. The centre will not only broaden our IT capabilities but also ensure we continue to deliver digital solutions for our clients."
This initiative will enhance the EIB Group’s global operations by fostering innovation, expertise, and collaboration. EIB Group Chief Digital Officer Kaisu Christie added, "We are very excited about the establishment of our Center of Excellence in Warsaw, with tangible advantages including the infusion of niche expertise to our existing teams, access to a larger IT talent pool, and resilience in our operating model. We're thrilled to have our new colleagues in Warsaw join our IT family, working together with our Luxembourg teams to revolutionize the way we operate and drive innovation."
Focus Areas of the Centre of Excellence
The CoE will concentrate on four key areas:
- Cloud: Strengthening cloud capabilities and supporting the “Cloud First” strategy.
- M365: Establishing cybersecurity activities and enhancing M365 capabilities.
- Pega: Integrating Pega skills to support and expedite strategic business projects.
- Compatible: Boosting capabilities to support market and financial-risk applications.
EIB Group's Impact in Poland
Poland remains a major beneficiary of EIB Group financing, with nearly €5.1 billion invested in 2023 alone to support key economic priorities. The EIB has historically invested close to €100 billion in Poland, contributing significantly to projects that improve quality of life and bolster the economy.
In 2023, the EIB Group, which includes the European Investment Fund (EIF), committed €88 billion to over 900 projects. These investments are anticipated to mobilize approximately €320 billion, supporting 400,000 companies and generating 5.4 million jobs.
The EIB’s Climate Bank Roadmap highlights that over half of its annual financing is dedicated to projects addressing climate change mitigation, adaptation, and environmental health. Additionally, about half of the EIB's financing within the EU targets cohesion regions, promoting inclusive growth and convergence of living standards.
