It signifies the advent of a global "low-price" age. 3) In order to survive in such an era, it is vital to grow out of conventional labor-intensive mass-production-oriented systems and construct more efficient "Large-variety Small-lot production systems." 1) We will meet with such challenges by creating a "Flexible Designing System" capable of carrying out thorough functional analyses and achieving optimum functional combinations by computers. 2) We will pursue for machining systems that will realize "24-Hour-per-Day unmanned operations." 3) We will continue efforts to eliminate "adjustments" from assembly process by higher-level close precision controls and realize assembly of components and units through so-called "Building-Block " production systems, thereby accomplishing a dramatic reduction in assembly process hours. The Aerospace Industry, an industry which is always at the cutting edge of technology, has been moving away from the conventional sheet-metal components fastened together with rivets to integral machined parts formerly made up of several parts. Reliable high-velocity machine tools are being sought by every Industry in its efforts to better cope with different requirements of the twentieth century. We machine tool suppliers must work harder to satisfy such needs.
