The first Cupra Terramar model has rolled off the production line at Audi’s factory in Győr, Hungary, marking a significant milestone for both Audi Hungaria and the Volkswagen Group’s sister brand, Cupra. Located 120 km northwest of Budapest, this facility is now Audi’s first factory to produce vehicles for a sister brand, as Cupra was formerly a sub-brand of Seat before becoming a standalone marque in 2018.
Audi Hungaria Zrt. chairman Michael Breme emphasized that the production of the Cupra Terramar will ensure high capacity utilization at the Győr plant for the next five years. Built on the same platform as the Audi Q3, the Terramar showcases the synergy between Cupra and Audi, with expertise from both brands contributing to optimized manufacturing processes.
This project underscores the benefits of collaboration within the Volkswagen Group, enabling both brands to strengthen their competitive positions and paving the way for future partnerships. Cupra CEO Wayne Griffith highlighted that the launch of the Terramar is a major step forward for the brand, which has sold over 700,000 units since its inception. The introduction of the Terramar expands Cupra's product portfolio and opens new markets, while maintaining the brand’s distinctive and rebellious identity.
