The Rail Cargo Group (RCG), an Austrian leader in rail freight transportation, has recently unveiled two pivotal rail connections, enhancing links between Munich, Germany, and Tekirdag, Turkey, with Curtici, Romania, serving as the central hub for these new services. The Munich-Curtici and Curtici-Tekirdag routes establish Curtici as a strategic gateway, facilitating efficient cargo movement between Turkey and Germany. RCG identifies Tekirdag as a crucial transshipment hub for Western Europe-Turkey trade flows, promising more streamlined connectivity from Belgium to Turkey as well, particularly with the increase in service frequency from Genk, Belgium, to Curtici from three to five round trips per week, now accommodating non-cranable semi-trailers.
This development is set to significantly enhance the rail connections between Europe and Turkey, potentially boosting Eurasian transport via the Middle Corridor. Notably, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, traversing Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, is poised to resume operations following a comprehensive upgrade. RCG's initiative to introduce new connections, alongside existing routes from Budapest and Bratislava to Istanbul, positions the company as a key player in this vital transport axis. Further expanding its reach, RCG has also extended its network to include destinations in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, underscoring its commitment to facilitating a robust and seamless transport infrastructure across Europe and Asia.
