With the western European protective coatings market maturing and some areas declining in 2009 for 2010 the coatings business in Western Europe has now entered a consolidation phase. Central and Eastern is showing positive growth for the first two quarters of 2010, Over 65% of the coatings markets in the CEE region is used in the renovation of buildings.
With the growing protective coating market in Central and Eastern Europe growing manufacturers are targeting the region for further growth and healthy returns. The European leading manufacturer of protective coatings is Akzo Nobel and is continuing its push into CEE by purchasing Eastern Europe coatings companies. In april 2009 Akzo Nobel acquired the leading the wood adhesives manufacturer Kronochem.
“This is a strategic bolt-on acquisition which will strengthen our portfolio in a key region and boost our technological capability,” explained Leif Darner, the AkzoNobel Board member responsible for Performance Coatings. “Eastern Europe is a major production center for some of the biggest and most innovative furniture manufacturers and we can now strive for the productivity needed to prosper in this part of the world.”
Central and Eastern Europe remains a key growth market for the protective coatings industry and as companies continue to search for new business opportunities industry’s interest in the region is unlikely to dwindle and further take over’s is sure to continue. The research team at CeeIndustiral believes that the protective coating market in Central and Eastern will grow by 7% overall in 2010 and by a further 8% in 2011 with healthy investment in housing stock of CEE then this trend will continue beyond 2015. We also see growth in the automotive, construction, and furniture sectors which will further drive demand for paint and coatings in Central and Eastern Europe and Russia.
DuPont opened a € 3.5 million euro technical development center in Russia in 2008 to research and adapt its products for the Russian market. DuPont Russian Coatings see’s the adaptation of its coatings material division to meet the demands of the ever changing car manufacturer’s plants. With the development center Dupont will be well placed to respond and anticipate the needs of the Auto industry in Russia and the pan coatings industry across the Russian market.
CeeIndustrial believes Dupont will be well placed to see clusters in the market for its wide range of products and invest and develop to the Russian auto industry needs.
The market for protective coatings is dominated by Russia and Poland and CeeIndustrial estimates approximately a market for coatings at over 1.5 million tons for 2009. In the next two years Poland will be a larger market then Russia and this is largely due to EU funded projects, investment in its housing stock, manufacturing investment and in someway the hosting of Uefa European Championship in 2012. We also feel that Romanian and the Ukraine have excellent potential for Protective coating suppliers in the coming years. CeeIndustrial is the leading Industrial B2B Directory that focus’s on the Central and Eastern European region and we work with the leading companies in the protective coatings industries. If your looking for distributors, Agents or access direct to the customer then CeeIndustrial is the most effective and efficient way of developing and finding business in the Central and Eastern European region.
