Porr Construct, the local subsidiary of Austrian group Porr, has been awarded the contract to construct a new container terminal for Constanta South Container Terminal (CSCT) in Romania. The project, with a total value of RON 274 million (EUR 55 million), is financed through a combination of European funds, state budget allocation, and the company's own funds.
The upcoming terminal, referred to as a "modal terminal," will seamlessly connect with the existing terminal. It will include operating berths and rail operations, as well as provide significant support for road traffic. The expansion aims to address the growing volume of goods passing through Constanta by increasing storage and handling capacities.
Covering an area of 12 hectares, the multimodal terminal will allocate approximately 5 hectares for goods storage, 3 hectares for access areas, 3 hectares for adjacent spaces, and the remaining portion for green spaces. The construction project is expected to be completed within a 24-month timeframe.
By enhancing the capabilities of Constanta port, the new container terminal will contribute to alleviating the existing congestion and accommodating the anticipated increase in traffic in the coming years.
