German carmaker BMW will start production at a plant in Debrecen, Hungary in 2025. The company announced at a press conference on annual sales in Budapest on Thursday that work on the base is "proceeding according to plan" and building construction will start in the first half of 2022. This news comes as a surprise to many, as it was just announced last year that the company would be opening their first plant outside of Germany in Debrecen. With this new plant, BMW plans to produce 150,000 cars per year. The Hungarian government has been working hard to make sure this factory becomes a reality and they are expected to provide financial support.
After a delay due to the coronavirus pandemic, German carmaker BMW has announced that they will resume construction of their new plant in Hungary. The EUR 1 bln plant is set to have a production capacity of 150,000 cars per year and will create 1,000 jobs. The plant is expected to begin operations in 2025. Hungarian sales of BMW cars rose 16% last year, indicating strong demand for the brand in the country. Construction on the new plant is set to begin this spring and will create much-needed jobs in the region.
