Lastinski inĹženiring, a major developer of hardware and software is joining with Rimac Automobili, the Croatian hypercar maker, to set up the Hyper E-Car lab in Novo Mesto. The facility will be offering testing services to other manufacturers alongside testing all of Rimac's car batteries and driving sys-tems.
According to Mate Rimac, CEO of Rimac Automobili, Croatia has good capacity at present but is aware that there needs to be a greater capacity if they hope to meet the need for testing, something that is currently in high demand among car manufacturers. Slovenian media report that around €3.4-million will be invested into the project by the Slovenian economy ministry.
The European Commission has already announced that the project has been approved as part of the EU state aid rules. The facility represents a project that is of common interest to EU countries ie, the research and innovation of battery development and production. €3.2-billion for the project is to be provided by 7 member states (Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden) which will enable the European Commission to unlock another €5-billion of investment for the facility.
