IBM and the WrocĹaw Research Center have signed a agreement for collaboration on research into Nanotechnology, Life Science and Intelligent Systems.
The US IT giant and the Wroclaw Research Center and the European Institute of Technology Plus (WRC EIT+) signed the agreement at the Ministry of Science and Education this week.
Scientists from IBM Research will support the WRC EIT+ by providing training, education for their research staff, including project management, research infrastructure management and R&D management.
"From the very beginning supporting collaboration between business and science has been a priority for the government,” says Professor Barbara Kudrycka, Minister of Science and Education.
"There are several areas for research and development opportunities in Poland where we see a strong opportunity for collaboration with IBM, in areas such as water management, energy consumption and transportation systems, where we hope to tap into IBM's global best practice,” said Professor MirosĹaw Miller, Chairman of the WrocĹaw Research Center EIT+.
IBM and WRC EIT+ aim to attract additional partners, both from academia and private business.
IBM has had a presence in Poland since 1991. IBM Software Laboratory in Kraków, which opened in 2005, was the first such facility in central and eastern Europe and employs around 200 specialists. IBM also has a large sales and service support centre in Poland.
