France's Saint-Gobain has agreed to sell its regional glass processing business Baltiklaas OÜ in Estonia to Polar Glass OÜ, a subsidiary of Estonian timber firm Barrus AS. The sale is part of the company's strategy to focus on its core businesses. Baltiklaas OÜ employs more than 200 people across two sites, located in Tartu and Mäo, with sales of around €25 ml. Saint-Gobain is one of the world's largest building materials companies with operations in 67 countries. The company has been present in Estonia since 1993.
Saint-Gobain has announced that it will be divesting its Estonian glass processing arm, Barrus. This transaction follows a number of other divestments in glass processing by the Group since 2018 in Europe with total sales of around €300 million divested. The latest was achieved in December 2021, of its regional glass transformation business Glassolutions in Denmark to the German glass manufacturer Semcoglas Holding GmbH. Saint-Gobain will be investing €45 million in Romania to expand its production capacity for float and coated glasses. This expansion is part of the company's strategy to increase its competitiveness and growth potential in Central and Eastern.
