This is the latest acquisition in a series of investments to expand its business.  The company has already invested in an additional timber plant, three mills and four sawmills, as well as acquiring other assets such as the state-owned forestry subsidiary LLC Khabarovsk Timber Company.  The acquisition will increase production capacity for veneers and plywood by 40%, to 60 million square meters per year.  Since it was established in 1996, Segezha Group has grown into one of Russia's largest vertically integrated holding companies performing a full cycle of operations from logging to advanced wood processing with over 20 billion USD revenue last year.

Russia's largest industrial timber producer, Segezha Group (SEGZ), has acquired the majority stake in Russian and European timber company Inter Forest Rus. The acquisition increases SEGZ's annual allowable cut to 23.6 million cubic meters and will make them one of the world’s 10 largest lease-holders of forest land with 16 million hectares under management.  This is a significant milestone for SEGZ as they have been seeking new avenues for growth outside of their traditional markets, which are currently seeing limited growth opportunities due to increased competition from Asia and other regions that offer lower prices on raw materials.  With this acquisition, SEGZ will become.
