2020 sees the start of production in the Hungarian Szentgotthárd plant of the new turbo petrol engine. Opel confirms that the engine, which will be produced in 100 and 130 horsepower versions will be a 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine and that they anticipate annual production to reach around 350,000 units.
Production at the plant has dropped in recent years but is now expected to see some much-needed growth in the coming 12 months. The plant will reduce production in other types of engines to make way for this latest engine, although the overall decrease will be reduced.
Opel is currently going through a period of reorganisation in its plants across Germany and Poland, however, it seems that, for now, there are no plans for any lay-offs of at the Hungarian Plant in Szent-gotthárd.
