Austria's Mayr-Melnhof Karton AG, the world leader in recycled fiber based cartonboard, said it has started the production of cartonboards for the construction industry at its Bulgarian factory in Nikopol. The output will be supplied to Germany's Knauf and France's La Farge. The new equipment cost BGN 2 mln. Mayr-Melnhof said the Nikopol output will reach 60 000 tons by the end of '08. A further 23 mln levs have been slated for investment in the Bulgarian factory over the next 3 years. The Austrian company has invested over EUR 15 mln since the '01 acquisition of the Bulgarian mill.
