Warsaw’s mayor, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz visited London in July to promote the Polish capital to investors, tourists and to migrant workers looking to return to Poland.
The BPCC had organised a business and investment seminar, which was part of her three-day visit to London based around the Poland Street Association’s 12 Cities initiative. Hosted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the investment seminar focused on Warsaw’s biggest infrastructure projects, such as the second Metro line, new roads and public transport links for the Euro2012 football championships and social housing. Accompanying the mayor, the treasurer of the city of Warsaw, MirosĹaw Czekaj, outlined the city’s financial goals as well as presenting the larger plots of building land that would be sold off by the city hall.
Michael Dembinski, the BPCC’s head of policy, said: “We were delighted by the interest shown in the Warsaw projects presented in London.
There was a good turnout from international financial institutions eager to hear at first-hand about the opportunities. It seems that their appetite for investing in emerging market infrastructure projects has returned. We had twice as many delegates for this event as we did for the visit of the mayor of Katowice to the City of London in March. Back then, the banks were simply not interested in investing. The climate has changed; this is good news for Warsaw and for Poland”.
The seminar also drew high-profile delegates from Britain’s construction sector, senior lawyers and architects. A business mixer followed, which gave delegates the chance to exchange business cards.
The BPCC will be organising the investment part of the visit of the mayor of GdaĹsk, who will be in London on 17th-19th September. For more details, please contact Michael Dembinski.
