MUNICH, — For the Croatian T-Com, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG, Siemens hast started with the roll-out of an IPTV solution to Croation homes.
The technology anticipates a broadband access and a set top box at the customer. Siemens provides the entire IPTV system as a turnkey solution that includes management systems for applications, digital rights management and the integration of different manufacturer's set-top boxes (STBs). The middleware, enabling communication between the network and the STBs is provided by Siemens subsidiary Myrio.
In order to reduce bandwidth requirements, the system supports the H.264 compression standard. The system provides access to 13 Croatian and about 40 international TV channels. In addition, it supports video-on-demand, thus providing access to movies. The system is based on Siemens' Surpass home entertainment system, which is integrated into the carrier's network.
