Committed to accelerating its circular economy initiatives, Alpla is investing roughly eight million euros to add a third extrusion line at its recycling plant in Radomsko, Poland. This enhancement will increase the site's capacity by 24,000 tonnes, bringing the annual output to 54,000 tonnes of food-grade rPET pellets. The upgrade will position PET Recycling Team (PRT) Radomsko as one of the largest recycling facilities of its kind in Europe.
Dietmar Marin, Alpla's managing director of the Recycling Division, underscored their dedication to a comprehensive recycling approach. He stated, "As a system provider, we develop recycling-optimised products, integrate significant proportions of recyclate in production and ensure efficient recycling."
PRT Radomsko, which opened a decade ago, is poised to secure the supply of food-grade PET recycling material for Alpla even beyond 2025. This year marks the enactment of an EU regulation mandating all PET beverage bottles in the EU to contain at least 25% of post-consumer recycled material. Alpla's expansion at the Polish site forms the foundation to meet these EU stipulations in the regions it operates.
Mariusz MusiaĹ, Alpla's country manager in Poland, noted their proactive approach in collaborating with customers to create closed loops for PET packaging. They also assist these partners on their sustainability journey, anticipating and addressing future needs today.
Beata Szynkiewicz-Razik, Commercial Director of PRT Radomsko, added, "With this investment, we specifically target the Polish market, ensuring the availability of sufficient rPET for our customers."
The addition of the third extrusion line in Radomsko will create 12 new jobs, bringing the team to over 100 members. Alpla annually invests approximately 50 million euros in expanding its global recycling operations and initiating new projects. Recently, the company commenced operations at its joint venture recycling plants Envicco in Thailand and PET Recycling Team Targu Mures in Romania. They also announced their first recycling plant in Africa in Ballito, South Africa, in June 2023. Alpla's recycling initiatives currently yield an annual production capacity of about 266,000 tonnes for rPET and 74,000 tonnes for rHDPE.
