Tonglinada, a Chinese logistic supply chain company, and Hungarian firm Nonfungo have signed a land grant agreement to establish a 100,000 square meter China-Europe logistic and trade exchange center in Pest County, surrounding Budapest. The project aims to build a new logistic center with warehousing, distribution, consolidation, bundling, and re-export trade functions, supported by over 30 million US dollars in investment.
The center is set to be operational at the beginning of 2024, facilitating the storage and transportation of over four million tons of goods per year. The project has received support from Hubei (Wuhan) and Heilongjiang provinces in China, as well as Pest County in Hungary.
The new logistic center will strengthen Budapest's function as a rail freight hub on the New Silk Road. With its good infrastructure and connections, Budapest shows its potential as a rail freight center. The city is also home to many industrial companies, including those from China, which have settled there due to the city's strategic location.
Despite challenges such as congestion, Budapest remains a popular transit point, with a transit time seven days faster than the traditional route via Malaszewicze. After the goods arrive in Budapest, they can be delivered to Bucharest/Constanza, the port of Koper, Duisburg, and Hamburg within 2-3 days.
The new China-Europe logistics center is expected to direct traffic and ease the burden on shippers and forwarders, ultimately expanding Budapest's potential as a logistics hub.
