The MECS-Amaplast statistical studies centre has shown a double digit growth in the Italian plastics and rubber processing machinery, equipment, and moulds industry. Exports are also boosting the balance of trade with an expected return to a value on the order of 3 billion euros. In addition, 8 of Italy's top 10 export destination countries account for nearly 60% of total exports from Italy. These statistics show that there is a robust recovery going on in this industry.
The Italian market continues to be one of the most competitive markets in Europe. With robust growth in demand, exports to Central and Eastern Europe demonstrated excellent growth in 2021 with the trend expected to continue through 2022, for example Poland sales of Italian manufactured rubber machinery and plastics machinery was up 17% in 2021. Alongside this, Italy's manufacturing industry has seen a resurgence which has led to an increase in investment into equipment that can support these new export markets. It is estimated that by 2022, only 8% of total production will be exported from Italy- demonstrating how much more globalized production processes are becoming.
