After one year and after an investment of an estimated €8.5 million, MOL Plc.has completed the construction of its new rubber bitumen plant in Zala County, Hungary. It has the production capacity of 20,000 tonnes per year, at around 96 tonnes per day.
3,000 tonnes of reclaimed rubber, sourced from an estimated 500,000 used tyres that account for 8–10% of Hungary’s tyre waste, will be used to produce the new bitumen meant for a variety of applications, including but not limited to road construction and maintenance.
In 2012, the company established a pilot plant for rubber recycling in the same county, and it has a yearly yield of an estimated 5,000 tonnes. As a result of the pilot plant’s success and due to an increased demand for its product, the planning and construction of a newer, larger plant was greenlit in the spring of 2019.
MOL Plc have stated that the new processing plant will efficiently contribute to the operations of the pilot plant, and it will preserve its one hundred plus jobs.
