The e-bike industry is currently undergoing a massive shake-up, with companies either relocating or investigating the feasibility of relocating their production sites from their current locations to other areas in the world.
Eastern Europe in particular has been a focus of these companies, and in the last decade several large factories and assembly plants have been opened at or relocated to sites in countries such as Poland and Romania. However, it’s not only the larger companies that have had success: smaller companies and start-ups have also successfully invested in the thriving e-bike and bicycle market.
An example is EcoRide, founded in 2008. The company moved production of its bikes from China to Poland in 2017, with a key motivation behind the move being the EU’s anti-dumping duties.
Another example is Atelierele Pegas, a Romanian bicycle producer that is poised to expand into the wider micro-mobility sector.
