Sensirion, a Swiss sensor technology manufacturer, recently announced plans for a new production facility in Debrecen, a city some 194 km east of Budapest. According to a company press release, the site is being constructed to handle the growing demand for sensors and will be built and financed by a local “build-to-suit” partner.
Sensirion accompanied this news by revealing that they had signed a long-term lease agreement, indicating they will be there for quite some time.
Debrecen was selected after a comprehensive evaluation of potential cities in the CEE region. According to company spokesmen, the decisive factors in the choice were the av-erage education level in the area, and the strong support received from local partners. The Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA), along with the Debrecen EDC, was instrumental in helping the company identify such partners. They also provided helped identify potential building sites.
The company reports that the new facility will be built over the course of the next year, with a tentative groundbreaking schedules for the 30th of June. Construction is expected to be completed by Q3 2021. It is estimated that the site will initially create around 50 jobs. However, beginning in 2022, the Debrecen Sensirion team will be expanding its portfolio, which should create another 200 jobs by 2025.
The company also wanted it known that the new facility’s construction would not affect any jobs at the existing Sensirion sites in South Korea, Switzerland, and China.
