Péter Szijjártó, the Hungarian Minister for Foreign affairs and Trade has announced that German company Lufthansa Technik will be establishing a Ft43billion (HUF) facility for MRO (Maintenance, repair and overhaul) services for aircraft in Miskolc, north east Hungary. The news broke on Reuters on Thursday as well as on Hungary’s HTI news wire.
Lufthansa Technik is part of the German airline group Lufthansa AG, and focuses on the repair of aircraft engine parts. The new base will provide jobs for around 400 people, with a government contribution to the project including financing training support.
Philip Mende, the Vice President of Lufthansa Technik has announced that the first employees are to be recruited in 2019 and sent over to Germany and Ireland for training. The new centre is expected to open in 2022. This new facility is also expected to produce development assignments for highly qualified engineers.
The new MRO centre looks to be one of the largest in Europe. Miskolc was seen by Lufthansa Technik as the best location, not only is it a very competitive business/economic environment but it also boasts a good infrastructure and a very well qualified workforce.
