Microsoft, the US tech giant, has unveiled its latest data centres complex in Poland, investing a whopping USD 1 billion to support the country’s digital transformation. The complex of data centres, located near the capital Warsaw, is Microsoft's newest "trusted cloud region," the first of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe, according to a statement from the company. The region is comprised of three physical locations in Warsaw, each of which houses one or more data centres.
Rolf Haupter, President for Microsoft Europe, Middle East, and Africa, revealed the project during the European Economic Congress in the southern Polish city of Katowice, stating that “Connecting Poland to the largest trusted global cloud infrastructure is significant support for the resilience of the country, society and organizations, and the development of the Polish Digital Valley.”
The Poland-based cloud centre, which guarantees the highest standards of security, privacy, and regulatory-compliant data storage, will provide users of the Microsoft Cloud platform with a “significant competitive advantage” in terms of maximum operational speed and reducing overload and latency to an absolute minimum. The company also stated that customers "will receive tools and capabilities for better business scalability and global expansion, which will allow them to grow and compete in the global market."
Poland’s Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, welcomed the project, stating that “Microsoft’s investment in Poland will accelerate our country’s transformation into a technology hub for the Central and Eastern European region.” Morawiecki described Poland as “a magnet for American investment,” adding that Microsoft’s project “underlines the confidence in Poland and the Polish government.”
This investment in the Polish Digital Valley is responsible development, enabling hundreds of engineers and developers to play a key role in the global economy without leaving the country. In times of economic and geopolitical uncertainty, maintaining the highest standards of data storage security is crucial for the Polish economy and society.
The newly launched Microsoft cloud centre near Warsaw, Poland, is set to be worth USD 1 billion, according to a video message from the US ambassador to Warsaw, Mark Brzezinski. Speaking at the European Economic Congress, Brzezinski praised the depth of Polish-American relations and the significance of the investment for the country's data-storage security. He also emphasized the importance of trust, security and innovation in the successful development of the economy. Meanwhile, Poland's Digitisation Minister, Janusz CieszyĹski, announced the launch of a EUR 700 million loan scheme to support companies interested in cloud transformation.
