20-year-old machining technician Eva-Maria Wahl won the German championship in CNC milling at the WorldSkills Germany professional competi-tions The second and third places were also won by CHIRON employees The high quality of training at CHIRON repeatedly confirmed
(Tuttlingen, September 2016). The CHIRON Group is not only one of the most innovative and successful manufacturers of vertical machining centers. The company also has the best-trained young professionals: At the WorldSkills Germany pro-fessional competitions in CNC milling, all three podium places were taken by CHIRON employees. 20-year-old machining technician Eva-Maria Wahl secured the national title, Steffen Sigrist (21 years, industrial mechanic) finished second while Marius Rüdinger (20 years, machining apprentice) took third place. "I am very proud of our next generation. The WorldSkills is a very demanding competition which requires maximum expertise of the young talents. But it also shows what can be achieved by solid training", commented Herbert Mattes, head of training at CHIRON, about the excellent re-sults.
The WorldSkills Germany national competitions are the Ger-man Championships for non-academic professions. The championship in CNC turning and CNC milling took place on four days in September at the International Exhibition for Met-alworking (AMB) in Stuttgart. At the biennial competitions, tal-ented young technicians under 22 years can prove their abili-ties in two machining disciplines. Working on their own, the participants in the competition have to produce different work-pieces based on drawings. In addition to general professional knowledge, it was especially skills in programming and opera-tion of the ultra-modern computer-controlled machine tools under time pressure that were required. Finally, a quality in-spection and evaluation was carried out by a jury of specialists.
The good performance of CHIRON young professionals at WorldSkills Germany confirmed once again the high quality of training at the Tuttlingen machine tool manufacturer. At the last German Championship in 2014, CHIRON already won the champion in CNC milling thanks to Patrick Aiple. "Training has a very high priority at CHIRON. We continuously have around 100 apprentices in 15 commercial and technical professions in Tuttlingen. With this broad basis, we don't only provide good prospects for the young professionals, but also ensure the company's competitiveness through highly qualified staff," said Mr. Mattes.
Her victory at the German Championships means the young machining technician Eva-Maria Wahl receives a ticket for the World Championship. She will represent Germany at the WorldSkills 2017 in Abu Dhabi. In cooperation with her instruc-tor Herbert Mattes and a training program developed especial-ly for this purpose, preparations for this will start within the next weeks.
The CHIRON Group, headquartered in Tuttlingen, is a global company specializing in CNC-controlled vertical machining and turning centers. It has production and development facilities on four continents, along with sales and service offices and trade missions. The Group, which specializes in the high-tech segment, achieved sales of about € 460 million with around 1,900 employees in 2015. The rate of employees in training is just under 10%.
The CHIRON Group specializes in the development and manufacture of automated vertical machining centers for the machining of complex workpieces at minimal costs and also provides comprehensive services and digital support for optimal machine operation. The optimization of the life cycle cost is the main focus. With the world's fastest tool change systems and holistic, productive manufacturing solutions including automation technology, the CHIRON Group sets the standards for dynamics and accuracy.
The three brands – CHIRON, STAMA and SCHERER – ensure high productivity with their multiple spindles, low space requirements and efficient use of resources. In addition, the brands are characterized by a high turnkey competence, innovation and top technologies. Among the brands, CHIRON primarily stands for speed and precision, while STAMA emphasizes robust milling and heavy cutting and SCHERER builds on multifunctional and flexible vertical pickup lathes and shaft turning centers.
Founded in 1921 as a workshop for the manufacture of precision mechanical equipment and surgical instruments, the CHIRON-Werke made a successful entry in the development and manufacture of vertical machining centers for metal-processing operations during the 1950s. Since 1957, the Hoberg & Driesch group of companies in Dusseldorf has owned CHIRON-Werke. STAMA has been a part of the corporate group since 1997 and SCHERER since 2012
